FUEL TANKER CRASHES NEAR A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN ANTHONY, LAGOS

Tragedy was averted on Wednesday afternoon when a fuel tanker crashed near a private school in Anthony, Lagos, Cornoa School, spilling its contents on the Oshodi-Gbagada Expressway.
Reports said police and traffic officials at the scene prevented people from scooping the spilled contents of the tanker.
The crash led to a gridlock on routes connecting the spot.
However, the situation was controlled within an hour by policemen and traffic officials.
The fire service also helped to contain the spill and prevent a fire outbreak by spraying foam on the tanker and the surrounding area.

28-YEAR-OLD WOMAN BITES OFF NEIGHBOUR'S NIPPLE IN ABUJA

A 28-year-old woman, Anastasia Uche of Kurudu, area of Abuja has been arraigned before a Karu Magistrate court for reportedly biting off her fellow woman’s nipples during a squabble.
According to the police prosecutor, Cpl. Pascal Njoku, the accused bit Hauwa Musa on the right her breast and detached the nipple, which has left the victim in severe pains. He disclosed that the offence contravened Section 241 of the Penal Code.
Uche pleaded not guilty and her counsel, Mr Michael Ejeh, applied for her to be bailed.
Magistrate Christopher Oba told parties to settled the case amicably, stressing that “Nobody benefits from trouble.’’
“I will advise that both parties in this matter should sit down and explore the possibility of resolving this matter,’’ he said.
He, therefore, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000, about $330 and a surety in the like sum.
“The surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and a traceable address within the jurisdiction of this court,’’ he ruled.
The magistrate adjourned the case to 21 November for hearing, if they fail to resolve the issue.

AMEOBI: I'VE NOT FORGOTTEN MY ROOT

Shola Ameobi has made a bold declaration that he is excited to show he has never thought of turning his back on his country of origin despite spending 26 years of his life in England. The Newcastle United forward is set to make his debut for Nigeria's Super Eagles in an international friendly against Venezuela in Miami, Florida in the USA on Thursday.
"I'm really excited. Nigeria is where I'm from, that's my heritage and I've never forgotten my roots. The majority of my family are from Nigeria and they're really excited about this. My parents are really, really happy but they would have supported me either way. It's a case of better late than never," Ameobi said in Tuesday's edition of the Daily Mail.
The 31-year-old striker said he wants to do his best in his first appearance for Nigeria.
He added that his decision to choose the Super Eagles is driven by the dream of wanting to be "an international one."

"I want to do the best that I can, I don't just want to be a local hero, I want to be an international one. That's what has driven the decision.
"This is the first opportunity that has arisen to do something that I've always felt passionately about and I've always wanted to do. It's a great honour and I don't take it lightly. It's something that I've wanted to do and I'm really, really happy that I've got the opportunity to do it now," he remarked.
Ameobi, who was the last Europe-based player to arrive the team's hotel lodgings at the Intercontinental At Doral in Miami, did not hide his excitement of running out for Nigeria.
"I'm really excited about it and hopefully I can go and meet up with the rest of the guys and see where we go from here. My focus right now is getting through this week and really looking forward to the game next weekend against Swansea.

"You'd be a fool if you didn't want to play at the very highest level and certainly I'm no fool. I want to play at the top as every other player does - that's what drives me and that's why I'm still here wanting to play in the Premier League," he said.
The Newcastle man also spoke about his club manager, Alan Pardew being "worried" that he is making a long trip for his age.
He continued that Pardew is also happy for him in spite of being worried.
Ameobi also noted that he will always hold Newcastle dear despite having fallen in the pecking order to Senegal striking duo of Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse.
"I think with my age and the travelling, Alan Pardew has said he's worried. You don't get back until later, you don't get much time to recover but it's something that we will look at and make sure I'm not doing a disservice to the club.

"Newcastle United will always be No 1 for me, that is the bread and butter so that is something we'll look at. But he's delighted for me, as you'd expect because he wants a squad full of internationals here. He's happy for me," said the Nigerian striker.

TRUE CONFESSION: HELP!, MY MOTHER-IN-LAW IS A WITCH, SHE KILLED MY ONLY SON AND WANT ME DEAD TOO

This is one thing I hate doing. Sharing my problem with the public? No! No! No! I don’t like it. But this time; I have to break the jinx because a closed mouth is a closed destiny.

It is said that he who brings firewood infected with maggots into his house should not complain when lizards start visiting him.

Actually, I brought all this upon myself and I am now reaping the fruit of my so-called ‘affection.’

I have been happily married for over10 years now and God has been faithful to my family until recently when things turned out differently.

I got married to my husband against my parents’ wish and advice. In fact, for disobeying their caution; my parents refused to attend both my traditional and church wedding; that day, I will never forget in my life. Anyway, that is by the way.

My husband and I hail from the same community but different clans in North central Nigeria.

When I first told my parents about my affairs with him a few years back; they warned me to disassociate myself from him because his mother is a notorious witchcraft and his entire lineage are known to be idol worshipers.

The undying love I have for him kept me glued to him and we both walked down the aisle on Saturday, September 18, 1993 without any of my family members in attendance.

My husband works with one of the national dailies as a line editor while I’m into cold room business.

We have been living happily despite our unfruitful efforts towards bearing children, until when God eventually wiped our tears in October 2011 and I conceived after series of miscarriages.

When it was a month to my delivery, I told my mother that she would come and help me when I put to bed, but she turned down my request, an indication that she’s still angry with me for discarding her advice.

Even my father has vowed not to see me again.

I told my husband that he should allow his mother to come since my mother wasn’t forthcoming, albeit, he was reluctant to accept but had no choice since there was no one else to help me out.

I put to bed last June, though it was through Cesarean section. When my mother in-law moved in, things started turning upside down. My husband was involved in a ghastly auto crash and his vehicle got damaged beyond repair.

Few months later, robbers came to our house and carted away our valuables including my N200, 000 gold jewelry.

Not up to a month, my shop got burnt and I lost everything I had inside.

In fact, at night, my mother in law would attack me with dangerous weapons, threatening to kill my only son and me.

I went for prayers and my pastor told me to be more prayerful and careful.

Last month, I went to the market to purchase food item only to return and meet the lifeless body of my son. Now my husband is yet to resume work because of the accident he had. My son is dead and my shop has been razed by inferno, yet my wicked mother in law has refused to leave our house. We are leaving from hand to mouth with the help of our church members at the moment.

My pastor had warned me against confronting her but I cannot take it anymore.

The woman killed our son and wants to kill my husband and I.

Dear readers, please help me out. Life has been unfair to me. I feel like taking my life. I wonder if God still exist.

Don’t you think it is time for an eye for an eye?

METROPOLITAN POLICE DROP INVESTIGATION INTO CLATTENBURG RACE ROW

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that it has stopped investigation into the alleged racist row that involves referee Mark Clattenburg.
“An investigation was launched into alleged comments made during a football match between Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC at Stamford Bridge on October 28, 2012,” an official statement read.

“This follows on from a complaint received by the Metropolitan Police Service on October 29.
“Enquiries were made and no victims have come forward.

“If the situation changes and a victim and/or evidence to support an allegation of a crime comes to police attention then further enquiries will if appropriate be made.”

The FA has however insisted that they will continue with their probe into the matter, even as the referee has been dropped for the third week running from Premier League officiating.

PASTOR PAUL ADEFARASIN REVEALS HOW HE ALMOST DIED ON HIS WAY TO PASTOR AYO ORITSEJAFOR'S BIRTHDAY

The founder of the House On The Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, shared with members of his congregation how he escaped accident on his way to lagos airport to catch a flight to warri, where he was to attend the birthday/ 40th anniversary of Pentecostal Fellowship Of Nigeria President, PASTOR AYO ORITSEJAFOR.

According to him, God spoke to him and asked him not to use his Range Rover, which he would usually prefer to drive for long distances. Unknown to him, the bolts of a tyre on the left side of the utility car, had almost come off. An automobile engineer was called in and he loosened about three bolts with his hands, without the help of a screwdriver.
In his words, he said: “If we had gone with that car, I would have been a statistic by now and the mood in this church today wouldn’t be what it is. But because I am a man who honours God and honour people that are honourable, I am standing here today.”
The church who had listened in stunned silence found their composure and applauded God’s mercies on the life of their Senior Pastor, who later continued his series on ‘The Power of Vision’.
Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s grand occasion, also had in attendance President Goodluck Jonathan, Mike Murdock, amongst other notable guests. And he received a gift from members of his congregation.

GOLDIE AND PREZZO SPOTTED...AGAIN

It’s becoming quite hard to believe that Ex-BBA housemates Jackson ‘Prezzo’ Makini and Susan ‘Goldie’ Harvey aren’t dating.
The Nigerian pop singer has refused to open up on her relationship with the Kenyan, sometimes denying speculation of a romance.
After Prezzo travelled all the way from Kenya to Nigeria, apparently to ask Goldie to forgive him for his behaviour in the Big Brother Stargame house, the duo were spotted in Kenya at the Channel O ‘O News Live‘ launch in Kenya.
They also got tongues wagging when they attended late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya’s daugther Tolu Odukoya’s wedding on November 3 dressed in matching blue traditional wear.
Last night, they again attended yet another event together – the Channel O ‘Hollywood Style House Party‘ held in Lekki, Lagos.
Sources who attended tell us the ‘couple couldn’t get theit hands off each other and looked pretty happy together’.
We’ve also heard from the grapevine that they are taking their relationship rather serious but are not ready to make any announcements for now.
Should we be expecting to see a ring on that finger, Goldie…? (wink).

The Jos-born musician, has added a new automobile – a Lamborghini – to his garage.

RESCUE POLICEMEN IN LAGOS SHOOT BANKER, GUARD, AFTER THEY WERE ROBBED

Double tragedy struck an employee of Access Bank Plc, Mr. Femi Badejo, as he was reportedly shot by policemen on Saturday minutes after he was robbed by armed men who stormed his residential home at Ikota area of Lagos state.
His security guard, Joshua Moses, was also hit by the stray bullets of the policemen.
It was gathered that the robbers had attacked Badejo and his neighbours in the wee hours of the morning. While the attack was on, one the neighbours made a distress call to the police, but by the time the policemen came to their rescue the robbers had fled.
The armed officers met Badejo and his neighbours outside the compound narrating their ordeal in the hands of the robbers, and suddenly they opened fire and started shooting sporadically, injuring the banker who is currently recuperating at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island.
According to him, “I live in a one-storey building and there are four tenants occupying the ground floor. Around 4am, armed robbers stormed our house.
“The robbers robbed all of us occupying the ground floor. They stole my clothes, money, phones and other valuables. While the robbery was ongoing, one of the tenants called Maroko Police Division.”
“We (neighbours) were all inside the compound counting our losses when we heard a bang on the gate. Immediately the security guard opened, one of the policemen started shooting indiscriminately.
“The security guard was shot in the pelvis and in the back but the bullet pierced through his chest. I immediately took cover under a car but the policeman came to where I was and started shooting at me.
“Another policeman came behind me and shot. The first shot came through my feet and fractured my leg. Two shots grazed my thighs. Another shot went through my biceps and came out, while one went through my wrist.
Still narrating his miraculous survival, Badejo added that it took the intervention of the other neighbours as well as the Divisional Police Officer of the station to prevent him from been shot to death.
After the situation was calmed, Badejo and the injured guard were immediately rushed to the hospital but his guard was in critical condition, thus he was subsequently transferred to General Hospital, Broad Street, and then Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Unfortunately, Badejo’s colleague who craved anonymity, revealed that he was scheduled to give a lecture at a summit organised by the bank on Saturday but the company executives were curious when he did not show up as scheduled.
He said, “Badejo is in Total Quality Management Department at the head office. He is part of the team working on the 21st century transformation which the bank is working on. He was supposed to deliver a lecture at 8.30am but when we did not see him, we began to wonder what went wrong.
“It was not until later that we received words from one his relatives that he was shot by policemen.”
Still feeling so embittered, Badejo, who couldn’t hide his disappointment at the actions of the police said, “When the policemen came into the compound, they didn’t even ask any questions. One of them just started shooting. Even the armed robbers did not even assault me, they only took my belongings.”

EVIL MOTHER SELLS HER 13-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AS SEX SLAVE FOR $4 (N650)

Western Cape police are hunting a mom who allegedly sold her 13-year-old daughter as a sex slave for just US$4 a time. The woman allegedly regularly took her little girl to bushes or outside shebeens and rented her out to men. She allegedly used the money to feed her own alcohol addiction as her little one was being raped. The alleged abuse only came to light when the girl told one of her friends who in turn alerted their teacher. The girl is now being cared for at a shelter run by Atlantis ward councillor and abuse councillor Barbara Rass.

“I have to applaud the teacher, the silence was broken. It seems everyone knew what was going on but no one protected her… no one intervened at any point. If she didn’t tell her friend and that teacher, this would have been continuing,” Rass said.
On Monday, a case was formally opened with the police who are investigating a case of rape and child prostitution.

Rass – who has 35 years experience serving the community and fighting on behalf of victims of sex attacks was close to tears as she spoke of the horrific case. She said the teen told her how her mother would allegedly lure her to shebeens to have sex with old men.

“The mother would take her to the shebeen yard and say ‘here is a man for you’. Or she would give her a chocolate and say ‘En hier is vir jou ‘n man [and here is a man for you]‘. She had to go into bushes with the men while her mother would always be drinking,” said Barbara.

When the Daily Voice team visited the isolated scene on Tuesday, children as young as five were walking around aimlessly and without parental guidance. Waste removal trucks chugged along the main dusty road leading out of the area which is surrounded by bush and shacks.

The traumatised teen finally ended up in the care of the police last week. But she did not disclose the abuse she has been forced to endure until she met Rass.

“She didn’t want to open up and the last person who raped her was a Xhosa man. She didn’t want to undress or speak, then she told me what had happened,” the councillor added.

The young girl on Tuesday spoke – in the presence of her temporary guardians about the abuse she has suffered. Her skeletal frame and dark eyes hint at the awful pain she has endured. She fidgeted nervously as she revealed that she lived with her mom and stepfather, who frequently called her foul names.

“Ons het op die plaas gebly, op die tip [we lived on the farm, at the dump site]. We lived inside a hokkie (We lived in a shack),” she said as she clutched a doll. She said her stepfather called her names.

Local community leaders are demanding the arrest of the girl’s mom. And they want her to point out all the perverts that paid her to have sex with her underage child.

Police sources confirmed they are hunting for the girl’s mother. They are also drawing up a list of the names of the girl’s alleged attackers, but so far no arrests have been made.

“The mother must be arrested and she must point out to police the men she sold her daughter to. I feel no mercy should be given to mothers who sell their own offspring. The court should deal with her like they would deal with someone who had underage sex with a minor. She was being sold for R50, this is disgusting. I want the mother to be exposed,” Rass said.

Until then, Barbara’s main concern is to keep the girl safe from further abuse. Police spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander confirmed that a case of rape has been opened as they hunt for the girl’s mother.

“The allegations of the mother accepting money for the sex attacks is being investigated. The child is in a place of safety,” he said.

In an interview which he granted to beIN sport, Christiano Ronaldo says of Messi: “He (Lionel Messi) is a great player… I have a professional relationship (with him) like I have with other players. I’m not friends with him, because we don’t share the same dressing room. I respect him like a professional. We’re not real friends, just friends through our profession… There are no issues between the two of us. It’s (issues being created) not just now, it’s been the same for the last five years. I can’t control it.”

OKADA BAN: WARRI, EFFURUN, ASABA CALM 5 DAYS AFTER

WARRI, Effurun and Asaba, the capital of Delta State, remained peaceful yesterday, five days after the restriction on motorcycle transportation, popularly known as Okada, by the state government came into effect.
The noticeable problem on the streets of the three cities is that people are finding it more difficult to transit from one point to another.
The approved tricycles are insufficient for the volume of passengers, while taxis and buses are having a boom season.
Those who could brace it resorted to trekking to their destinations.
Investigation by Vanguard showed that the roads in Warri are less chaotic with the absence of Okada, but majority of the motorcyclists have condemned the restriction order.
The restriction was initially supposed to commence September 30, but the state government deferred it to November 1 to enable interested motorcyclists purchase tricycles approved by the government.
Some of the Okada riders, nevertheless, said they could not afford the tricycles and protested last week at Delta State House of Assembly.

WE NOW STRUGGLE FOR OUR SURVIVAL - OKADA OPERATORS

The Chairman of the All Nigerian Autobike Commercial Owners and Workers Association (ANACOWA), Mr. Aliyu Wamba, has described the economic fallout of the ban on the operations of commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, on some roads in Lagos State as “terrible.”
According to him, the policy had started to take a heavy toll on the operators. Wamba accused the government of going ahead to enforce the law after it was taken to court over the legislation. He said, “We are now in a very terrible condition, as the law has made us economically incapacitated. We now struggle for our survival and our families are in a very sorry state. The situation is becoming pathetic.

“What happens now is that once a rider is intercepted, the motorcycle is impounded and taken to the crushing yard. Once the motorcycle is impounded, it is billed for crushing without any trial.

RIP ALUU4

Today is exactly one month UNIPORT students -Tekena, Ugonna, Chiadika, and Ilyod were brutally murdered in the Aluu community. They were probably still alive by 7:40 this morning a month ago, but nobody in the community was interested in saving the lives of these innocent boys. We are still awaiting justice for them! SHOW OF SHAME IN DUBAI

Barely a day after the Samsung Intercontinental Cup ended, report had it that Nigeria's Supersand Eagles have been thrown out of their hotel lodgings in Dubai, UAE.
It was learned that the management of Rayhaan Hotel & Resorts in Dubai informed the players and officials of the Nigerian team on Sunday that they will have to check out of the facility since the duration of their lodging had expired.

The eight-nation Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup finished on Saturday with Nigeria finishing fourth but the West Africans' flight, aboard Etihad Airlines, back home does not leave until 10am local time on Monday.
As at the time of writing this report on Sunday, the 12 players, two coaches and three other officials had packed their luggage in a bus and were heading to Abu Dhabi.

"We have been abandoned here (in Dubai), as the hotel has told us to vacate our rooms because our time of stay has ran out except we want to pay for additional nights. Our flight to Nigeria is tomorrow around 10am (UAE time) and the worst part of it is that since we came here nobody has given us one naira talkless of one dollar.

"We (the beach soccer team) are dying and people are expecting us to give our best under very unpleasant circumstance," one of the players said.
The Nigerian contingent is now planning to move to the Abu Dhabi International Airport to spend the next 24 hours before its scheduled flight for Monday.

Six-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba have appointed Salisu Yusuf as their head coach for the 2012/2013 season.
Enyimba announced on their official website on Sunday that Yusuf resumes with immediate effect at the Aba-based club.

The contract between Enyimba and Yusuf was signed in Aba on Saturday.
"I believe Salisu Yusuf is the right man to move the club to where we want to go.
"He has an outstanding reputation for his technical knowledge of the game and led Kano Pillars to their first league title (as an assistant under Kadiri Ikhana). He also worked well with the Samson Siasia led technical crew of the Super Eagles.

"Salisu shares our long-term ambitions and ethos of playing great football and winning trophies and I believe he will be able to do so now with all the support we will give him. Every member of Enyimba and the Government of Abia State will give him everything he needs to succeed.

"We are constantly trying to move Enyimba forward. It is important that we hire and work with people with great determination and spirit. This appointment is the first part of a process of putting the club firmly on the path to great success," CEO of Enyimba, Felix Anyansi-Agwu said to the club's website.

"I feel honoured to be a part of Enyimba. This is one of the most well known clubs in Africa and I'm hopeful that at the end, we can win a lot of trophies because when a club gets to the level where Enyimba is, only victory and success is acceptable," said the former Kano Pillars' coach.

TRAGEDY: 20 MEMBERS OF JEHOVAH WITNESS CHURCH DEAD.

It was indeed a black Saturday in Akwa Ibom State, as a man, his whole family were among more than 20 members of the Jehovah’s Witness Church that got perished in a fatal road accident along the Utu Etim Ekpo road, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident which occurred on their way to the Church’s annual convention in Ikot Ekpene Local Government area of the state also left 40 other members of the church severely injured.

It was gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a Lorry from Ukanafun Local Government Area to Ikot Ekpene for the three-day annual district convention on Friday, but on their way, tragedy struck, leaving many members of the church dead.
The corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to nearby hospitals and mortuaries.

Narrating to the press how it all happened, Mr. Friday John, an eye-witness said the people who died may have been more than what was seen because a whole family was persihed in the accident.
“We were all here discussing when suddenly the lorry appeared and was looking like the driver had lost control of it. Then the lorry drove straight and hit the stone and sommersaulted into the gutter.
“Many people died, more than 18. In fact, we couldn’t count the number because there were many corpses, including husband, wife and children and they were all taken to the mortuary in various hospitals near Etim Ekpo here,” John explained.

Another eyewitness, Mr. Ndipmo Nkanta, said the Lorry conveying the deceased and the injured passengers was not meant for passengers, but for goods only. The secondary school teacher also blamed the accident on poverty , arguing that if there was a better alternative, such casualties wouldn’t have been recorded, especially as they were going to a religious gathering.

In his report, Mr. Godgift Uwen, Akwa-Ibom state Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, attributed the cause of the incident to over-speeding and overloading by the driver of the Lorry.
He however advised against careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol, especially in the yuletide, because, according to him, those are the major causes of road mishap.

FUEL SCARCITY HITS IMO STATE

The city of Owerri and its environs are witnessing long queues following the ongoing fuel scarcity that has hit Imo state, South-east Nigeria.
Residents say the situation has been going on for the past one week.
A source informed DailyPost that major oil marketers have closed shop and only private filling stations are selling petrol for as high as N150 per litre.
Already, black marketers have taken to the streets, selling the product between N180 and N250.
Commercial vehicle owners say they sometimes spend the whole day trying to get fuel while motorists now pay between twenty and fifty percent higher than the normal transport fare
The reason for the scarcity is yet unknown and no official explanation has been given by neither the oil marketers nor the Department of Petroleum Resources.
