SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM MEMBERS ADMITTED KILLING POLICEMEN IN NIGER

Suspected members of the dreaded Islamist sect – Boko Haram who were nabbed in Minna, the Niger State capital recently by the police in connection with two bomb factories in Maitumbi and Tunga in Bosso and Chanchaga Local Government Areas of the state, have admitted to the killing of policemen in the turbulent state.
This was made known by the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Nsirim in an interactive session with the management staff of the state Ministry of Livestock/Fisheries, led by its commissioner, Dr Isah Yahaya Vatsa, during her familiarisation tour of the ministry.

The police boss added that the suspects had since been transferred from the Force headquarters in Abuja.

“Our decision not to mention the exact number of the hoodlums so far arrested in connection with the bomb factories and not to parade them before newsmen or exhibit the dangerous items recovered from the scence of crime is hinged on the security implications. We are also still in search of a vital information as regards the criminal activities of the suspects in the state prior to their arrest,” she said.
She added that the recent donation of 50 patrol vans installed with communications gadgets by the Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu-led administration in the state had augmented the performance of the command.

SENEGAL FIRE COACH KOTO AFTER ...

SENEGAL FIRE COACH AFTER NATIONS CUP ELIMINATION

Senegal have fired coach Joseph Koto after their failure to qualify for the African Nations Cup finals, the country's football federation said.
The decision follows a Tuesday board meeting to discuss the rioting that caused the abandonment of their final round, second leg qualifier against the Ivory Coast this month.

"Koto has been removed because targets were not achieved," the federation said in a statement.
Koto been acting coach since Amara Traore was fired in February after a disastrous 2012 African Nations Cup finals for Senegal and had his appointment confirmed in July.

Senegal were trailing 2-0 in Dakar when home supporters caused the abandonment of the match by throwing missiles on to the pitch and lighting small fires in the stands.
The team were on their way out of the 2013 competition after being outplayed, 2-6 down on aggregate when play stopped. They have since been formally disqualified.

Koto, a former Senegal international, was also coach of the country's Under-23 side at the men's football tournament at the London Olympics this year.

According to him, “It happened this morning (on Tuesday). An okada rider was stopped by a policeman but the man refused to stop. So, the policeman hit him with a baton he was holding. The man fell and died immediately.
“I don’t know why the okada man refused to stop but they have been warned not to pass through Agege, which is among the roads commercial motorcyclists were banned from plying.”
Another eyewitness, who wished to be identified as Iya Laje, accused the policemen of manhandling any errant motorcyclist accosted in the area.

COMEDIAN, MALEKE GAVE HOPE TO KIDNEY PATIENT

MALEKE RAISES N6 MILLION NAIRA FOR ARTIST WITH KIDNEY AILMENT

According to statement granted to Vanguard exclusively in Benin, Maleke said he decided to convert the occasion to a fund raiser.

ALUU4 KILLING

ALUU KILLINGS: COURT CASE SHOULDN'T STOP COMPENSATION

Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association says the ongoing trial of alleged killers of four students of the University of Port Harcourt should not stop “a responsible government” from compensating the families of the victims.

Acting Chairman of the branch, Mr. Adesina Ogunlana, said this at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said governments at all levels owed the families of the victims the duty of reducing the attendant pain of the brutal loss of their loved ones by compensating them. He said, “Some lives have been lost. The manner of the death of the victims is clear. They were not killed by the act of God. They did not die in their sleep.
“The case that is in the court should not stop any serious and responsible government to do anything to assuage the pains of the families.

“If you ask me, I will say both the federal and the state government and even the Local Government where the students were killed should compensate the families.”
In his address on the state of nation entitled, ‘Nigerian’s Hobbesian state of nature, a portent of a coming tragedy’, Ogunlana described the killing on October 5 as “outrageous”.
He said the Ikeja branch, the national leadership of the NBA and the branch of the association closest to where the incident occurred would work out how to be involved in the prosecution of the perpetrators.

Those who have so far been charged in connection with the killing of the four undergraduates were allegedly part of a mob that tortured them in Omuokiri-Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State

WHO WILL REPLACE SIR ALEX FERGUSON?

MANCHESTER UNITED COMPILE LIST OF COACHES THAT WILL REPLACE SIR ALEX FERGUSON

A list of potential successors to Sir Alex Ferguson, have been drawn up and hidden away in a locker at Old Trafford. Vice-chairman of the club, Ed Woodward, says only a select few know the names on the list, even as no date has been set for the Scot to step down, after a long trophy-laden reign as the club’s manager.“We have a view as to what that process [appointing a new manager] will look like in terms of finding a replacement and what type of manager we want and how and when we’ll go about it,” he said. “But it’s in the drawer and long may it stay in the drawer.”
In the recent past, coaches like Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and even David Moyes, have been linked with the post. But it is still not clear when Ferguson intends to step down.
“I don’t know how long I can last now but if my health stays up I don’t think another two or three years would harm me any,” the 70-year-old said at his 25th anniversary as boss, earlier this year.

“I think you need stamina in my job. I am blessed with that. I’ll know when I’m not enjoying it and if I got to a point when I wasn’t enjoying it I would definitely do it (retire).
“But I think you always want to go out on a winning note. Hopefully we can do that.”
Ferguson had also insisted that there has no been discussions over who will take over from him.

FAMILY ACCUSES DELTA POLICE OF KILLING ...

CONTROVERSY, AS FAMILY ACCUSES DELTA POLICE OF KILLING THEIR SON

Accusations and counter accusations have continued to trail the recent gruesome murder of Mr. Bernard Chigwe, Head of Personnel Management (HPM), Isoko North local government area of Delta state.

Mr. Chigwe was murdered in controversial circumstances on his farm in Kwale, headquarters of Ndokwa West council area on September, 30, when some policemen went with him to the farm to arrest some Fulani herdsmen who were alleged to have been destroying products.

Addressing pressmen in Asaba today, Barrister Emeka Chigwe, on behalf of the family, asserted that apart from the conflicting stories surrounding the murder, the police are attempting to shield the actual identity of his murderers and suppress all strategies towards their apprehension.

According to the lawyer, their belief is that one Momodu Osuya, a Vigilante and Youth Leader, and four police officers from Kwale Police Division, all of whom were present with the deceased when he was murdered, have a hand in it, judging from the contradictory accounts given by the police of the incident, and the incontrovertible evidence they say was gathered from the scene of the crime.

The lawyer said that even when the family petitioned the Commissioner of Police on the contradictions and suspicious complacency of the police team in Kwale, the crack team of homicide detectives from the state CID which visited the crime scene discovered no bush anywhere to facilitate the kind of ambush alleged by the Oferm team. Similarly, there were no fresh cattle footprints, nor were any wasted bullet pellet found in the area.
Chigwe maintained that the police’s spurious impression that a Fulani herdsman, Sule Maigari, who shot the deceased had been arrested was corporate false hood and an effort to absolve them of complicity in the murder of their son stressing that the said Maigari was nowhere near the scene of crime on the day in question.

But the Delta state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said there is no controversy surrounding the matter. He claimed that one of the suspects, with a bullet wound in his stomach, was arrested at Onitsha through painstaking investigation, and that the doctor treating the suspect and two suspects are helping the police in their investigation.

He said the suspects have been charged to court for conspiracy and murder and have been remanded, regretting that instead of the family of the victims to commend the police they are blaming the force in an attempt to retrieve the vehicle of the deceased.
He threatened that if at the end of it the family is found to have given false information and are not able to prove their allegations as none of them was at the scene, they would be taken up.

GOV AMAECHI RAISES ALARM ON SPORTS

AMAECHI RAISES ALARM OVER LEVEL OF CORRUPTION IN SPORTS

Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers on Monday identified corrupt practices by some Sports Administrators, as the greatest threat to sports development in the country.
Amaechi, who spoke at a Presidential Sports Sector Retreat in Abuja, said for the nation to regain its lost glory in sports, corruption must be addressed by government and all stakeholders.
He particularly frowned at the way and manner the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) was being managed and called for a total overhaul of the body.
The governor attributed the nation’s diminishing fortune in football to poor management on the part of the NFA.

He called on the Federal Government to take radical decision on the football body and damn possible consequences from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), which might ban the country for two years.

“Mr President should go ahead and dissolve the NFA completely and let FIFA ban us from international football for two years.
“Let us come back home and start afresh. We will perform better later.”
Amaechi said that as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, he knew that state governors were capable of funding sporting activities if there was transparency.
“Most state governors have been avoiding putting much money in sports because of large scale corruption.”

He said it was not right that public funds should be mismanaged as was currently being done by some sports administrators.
“Those who administer public funds should do so judiciously and transparently,” the governor said.

The retreat, which attracted many participants, including state governors, identified immediate practical actions to deliver results for each sporting event in the country.

NAKEDNESS IN HIGH PLACES

WOMEN NOW GO MORE OR LESS NAKED TO THE CHURCH

An association of Christian clerics, Akwa Ibom Clergy Forum (AICF), has expressed worries over the issue of indecent dressing in some churches in the country. The group made this known at a press conference to announce its National Prayer Summit scheduled for October 27 in Lagos.

The president of the AICF, Rev. Samuel Udo, said indecent dressing constituted a moral burden to the nation, stressing that it was one of the major reasons for the country’s backwardness. According to him, “A church is supposed to be a holy place. It should not be a place to commit sins. Churches today have turned to places of abomination.

“Women now go more or less naked to the church. Men go with earrings and other materials associated with females. It is forbidden for a man to put on what belongs to a woman, but now such things have been turned to style.” The clergy therefore, urged worshippers to be righteous in their dealing with God to avoid disaster in the country.

Another pastor, Eyo Udo, lamented that people go to church with whatever they like, without necessarily considering where they are going to.

MAN DEFILES GIRL ...READ ON

A DRUGSTORE OWNER ARRESTED AFTER DEFILING A 2-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A popular businessman in Ogoja, northern Cross River State, southsouth Nigeria, has been arrested for allegedly raping a two-year old girl (name withheld).
The man, Mr. James Eze, was detained by the police after he was arrested for allegedly having carnal knowledge of the child.

Eze, who owns a well-known Edoh Pharmacy located on 1, Mission Road, Igoli Ogoja, allegedly lured the girl into his office where he defiled her and thereafter gave her N25 to buy sweets.
Eze was alleged to have defiled the girl for ritual purposes as he “collected the blood that gushed from the girl’s private part with a white handkerchief. The handkerchief is now with the police,” an eyewitness says.

Mrs. Josephine Ibeh, the mother of the victim who owns a beer parlour at the back of the building where Edoh Pharmacy is located, said her daughter came back and told her that blood was coming out of her private part and on close examination she realised that she had been defiled.
“I saw that her private part had wound and was bleeding profusely, and when I asked her what happened, she told me that Edoh put his penis inside her,” Ibeh said.
Mrs. Ibeh said the girl’s private part was severely damaged by the suspect and when she confronted him, he gave her money to pacify her.

“When I confronted Edoh, he brought out N50,000 and told me to take the girl to the hospital, saying that it was the devil that pushed him to do it,” she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.

Mrs. Eze said the matter was reported to the police at the Divisional Headquarters in Ogoja and the man was arrested while the girl was taken to the General Hospital Ogoja where she was stitched.
A doctor at the hospital, who pleaded anonymity, says the girl had “four stitches as the tear was deep and the lacerations caused by the forced entry wide.”

A source at the Divisional Police Headquarters confirmed that Edoh is in their custody and may not be given bail immediately going by the inflamed passion in the town over the act.
“We suspect ritual purpose for the man’s act because that man is rich enough to have any woman of his choice in this town. The white handkerchief the man used to collect the blood is in our custody,” the police source said.

The matter, the source added, would soon be transferred to the state police Command Headquarters in Calabar.

As a Nigerian, or a Parent, what punishment do you think should be bestowed on the man?

MY HUSBAND AND DOCTOR SOLD MY BABY...

20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN EBONYI ACCUSES HUSBAND AND DOCTOR OF SELLING HER NEW BABY

A 20-year-old woman from Ebonyi State is accusing her husband of conniving with a medical doctor to sell off her one-day-old baby. Charity Nwuzo went to a hospital (names withheld by us) to seek medical care like other normal pregnant women, but little did she know that she was in the den of baby sellers. She has delivered a baby boy, but she never came out of the hospital with her new bundle of joy. The story of Charity was a very pathetic one. Mrs. Ngozi Ibeneme, a neighbour to the victim, said Charity endured unbearable pains before and while giving birth to the baby. Charity claimed she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy in the said hospital only for her to wake up and discover, to her chagrin, that her new baby was nowhere to be found. She subsequently raised the alarm, which attracted passers-by to the hospital.
The incident was thereafter reported at the police station. It was gathered that young Charity got pregnant for her boyfriend who absconded to an unknown place afterwards. She later intimated her boss, one Emma (surname withheld) who she was working for as a salesgirl at Nkpor, of the development. He allegedly offered to marry her and assist her in her condition. It was Emma, Charity’s former employer, now husband, that allegedly took the young woman to the hospital located at Owerri-Ebo Street, in the commercial city of Onitsha where Charity registered for antenatal care. However, the unexpected happened after the young expectant mother allegedly gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. Instead of savouring the joy of motherhood, especially since her baby would no longer be called a bastard, Charity’s employer turned husband allegedly conspired with the medical director of the hospital to sell the one-day-old baby.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim disclosed that an ultra-sound test conducted on her by the doctor detected that she had a baby boy, which she said increased the joy of her supposed husband who later got the child sold off. “When the doctor conducted an ultra-sound test on me which detected that I was bearing a baby boy, he told my husband. And my husband was very happy. He even increased the love and care he had for me. I thought I had finally arrived and that at least my baby will no longer be called a bastard since somebody had agreed to be his father.“Then, one day, I was in a ward in the hospital when a woman dressed in Nigerian Immigration uniform entered and met the doctor. I saw them together, and I overheard them discussing something like buying or selling a baby boy for the sum of N600, 000.
Later in the evening of that same day, I was invited into the theatre where I was held and forced down by the wife of the doctor, my husband, and some other people that I could not identify. Then the doctor injected me and I fell asleep immediately. After that, I was operated upon.

“My unborn baby boy of seven months and three weeks old was removed and sold to the immigration officer. When I recovered and requested to see my baby, I was given N100, 000.“But I didn’t collect the money.
I rejected it and insisted on having my baby because if I should go home without my baby, my people who were already aware of my pregnancy would reject me. When they realized that I was adamant and still refused to collect the N100, 000, they pushed me out of the hospital with the caesarean wire still in my stomach. They also seized my handset to stop me from communicating with people.
“It was one Miss Chika Ejiofor who took me to her house, and later introduced me to a lawyer, Mr. Akonanya who offered to give me free legal services.” Meanwhile, policemen attached to “D” Department of the State CID, Awka, swooped into action and arrested the said medical director, his wife and the supposed husband of the victim.
According to a police source who pleaded anonymity, the doctor was arrested together with his wife, and five other members of the syndicate. One of those arrested was a teacher at the Central Primary School, Umuoji in Idemili Local Government area. They were accused of taking part in the criminal buying and selling of

newly born babies.

The suspects, who are currently helping the police in their investigation, are accused of belonging to a very powerful syndicate that specializes in stealing babies and harbouring young pregnant teenagers to procreate for the purpose of selling their babies to wealthy individuals.
They were also accused of housing prostitutes, impregnating them for the purpose of rearing babies for sale, organizing maternity services for pregnant women and selling newly born babies without the approval of the mothers, among other accusations levelled against them. The medical doctor, who was described as the leader of the syndicate, was also accused of running a maternity home at Amaorji village, Umuoji in Idemili Local Government area of Anambra State where he allegedly employed many staffers that assisted him in transacting the illicit business.

The police source further revealed that the arrest of the medical doctor and the smashing of the dangerous baby stealing syndicate were made possible following a petition to the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ballah Nasarawa dated September 17.
The petition was written by Mr. Afam Akonanya of the Obochie Chambers, Awka. He’s also the counsel to Charity Nwuzo. Akonanya, in the petition, had alleged that the medical doctor and his group were committing pathetic, awful and untoward criminal acts, including the sale of a newly delivered baby boy. He had urged the police authorities not to play with the petition. The lawyer said in the petition that to placate his client, the suspects must return the exact baby boy that Charity delivered in the hospital. “The act is barbaric and unless these issues are treated based on its merit, we shall explore legal means to get justice,” Akonanya had noted in the petition. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ralph Uzoigwe, confirmed the arrests. He said, however, that he was yet to receive full details of the incident.

GIRL ESCAPED RITUALIST...

13-YEAR-OLD NARRATES HOW SHE ESCAPED FROM RITUALIST DEN

When Emmanuela, 13, a JSS student of Shadoff Secondary school, Igbogbo, set out on that fateful day for her usual Thursdays fellowship and faith clinic service at a church, little did she know that it was going to be the most horrifying experience of her life as a teenager.

But by divine intervention, Emmanuela returned to tell the grueling story of her kidnapp and how she was slated for rituals before God set her free. But other ten passengers could not live to tell their stories. According to her, “I entered the bus from Igbogbo around 7pm. I was going to my church for our Thursday vigil. When I entered the bus, I noticed that all the passengers in the bus were sleeping. They were about ten. I felt something was wrong and I quickly told the driver to stop for me that I had forgotten my transport fare at home. The conductor then said that I should not worry that he would not collect money from me. I insisted I would get down, shouting that I was going to church and I would not be able to come back home even if he did not collect money from me. But he refused. As we were arguing on that, the conductor immediately brought out a handkerchief and waved it on my face and that was the last thing I remembered. “I then saw myself at a shrine with other victims. The following day at the shrine, they began to kill others with knife and machete one after the other. Although we were blindfolded, yet, I was able to see a bit of what was going on. They decided Sunday would be my turn when they would conclude their rituals.”
“We were there without food or water, and when it got to my turn on Sunday, I was taken to the shrine again along with the remaining two. But I heard one of them saying ‘no, they should return me back to where they picked me. We were three left out of about eleven people. ”But instead of returning me back to where they picked me , they kept me somewhere. The following day which was Monday, they took the three of us back to the shrine. The other two were killed that day, leaving only me. One of them again told the men that they should look for another person to replace me and that they should return me immediately. But they refused saying that they cannot return me and that they should manage and use me like that. After the argument, I was laid at the shrine, at that point, with the little consciousness I had, I was praying, I was weak and could not even move my body. I realised that the killer could not bring his knife on me. The next thing I heard was that ‘take this girl away’. Again, that was what I saw until I found myself at the Ita Elewa, Ikorodu late at night.
”Emmanuela said: “It was dark, I didn’t know how I got there; I just suddenly discovered I was out of their hands, but I was very weak. There, I saw a man in a suit walking on the street. I approached him and asked him where I was? He told me Ita-Elewa; I begged him to take me to my church because it was very close to the area they dropped me. He obliged me. When I entered the church, I fell and lay by the gate. “As a member of the drama group, we usually hold drama rehearsals every Tuesdays. So, it was co-incidental that the members of the group were there at that time. Somebody who was sent by our leader to check the gate saw me and took me inside, prayed for me and gave me food to eat. Throughout my stay there, I was never hungry, until I came out.

”Asked to describe the area where the ritual took place, Emmanuela said what she saw were materials and accessories used by ritualists, such as charms, knives, machetes among others. She explained that it was an isolated area, adding “there is no living house in the area. I really don’t know the place, but what I saw there were things used by ritualists. I can’t really say whether it was in Ikododu or its outskirts and I can’t determine the time we spent on the road because I didn’t even know how I got there.”

BOKO HARAM TOP COMMANDER IS MY NEPHEW!

SENATOR ADMITS BOKO HARAM TOP COMMANDER IS HIS NEPHEW

Senator Ahmed Khalifa Zanna of the Borno Central Senatorial District has denied that suspected Boko Haram top commander Mohammed Shuaibu Bama was arrested in his Damboa Road home, in Maiduguri’s GRA.

Speaking to newsmen in a telephone interview, Zanna confirmed that the suspect is his nephew, but asserted that there was nothing more than that. He said he was not harbouring Bama and that the suspect was not actually arrested in his home.

He challenged security agents, whom he accused of harassing and beating children in his house yesterday, to go and investigate the man’s relationship with the people in whose home he was arrested.

“They said they arrested the man in the house of a lawmaker in Damboa Road, and there is no any lawmaker in Damboa Road except me,” he said. “They did not arrest him in my house, they went to my house but did not find him, and instead they arrested children in my house and put them inside hot sun and started beating them. And they asked them whether they know Shuaibu Bama, and one of the boys answered yes. He then took them to where they arrest Shuaibu Bama.”

On his relationship with the suspect, he answered, “Shuaibu Bama is a son of my sister. But the lie is what they are saying that they arrested him in my house, which is lie. And we cannot hide or harbour a Boko Haram sect member. And since he was not arrested in my house, they should go and investigate his relationship with people they arrested him in their house. I don’t know anything about it and just heard yesterday.”

‘It’s true love and it stood the test of time. You know it’s real. It can’t be anything else. They done gone through hell and back together and I’m happy for both of them.’

‘It’s kind of scary. Their reconciliation has already upset her friends and management. They’re an explosive combination.’
She also cryptically tweeted: ‘I found the one, he changed my life…But was it me that changed and he just happened to come at the right time? #UNAPOLOGETIC’.

THE PRESIDENT'S WIFE SPEAKS...

DAME PATIENCE JONATHAN: "MY HUSBAND LOVES ME AS I AM"

First Lady Patience Jonathan yesterday returned to a tumultous welcome in Abuja, after a six-week stay in Germany. There was a burst of excitement at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja where the presidential jet that brought her back landed at about 4pm.

Dame Patience threw her two hands up in the air as the crowd of government officials, governors’ wives, politicians and women groups hailed her arrival.

Mrs Jonathan who spoke to reporters at the airport said: “I am happy to be back in Nigeria.

“There are a few Nigerians that are saying whatever they like, not what God planned because God has a plan for all of us.
“God has said it all, that when two or three are gathered in His name, that He will be with them. And Nigerians gathered and prayed for me and God listened and heard their prayers, so I thank God for that.

“At the same time, I will use this opportunity to speak to those few ones saying that anybody that goes to the Villa or Aso Rock will die.

“They mentioned the late Gen. Sani Abacha, they mentioned the late Stella Obasanjo, they mentioned the late President Umar Yar’Adua and other people. But why didn’t they mention those ones that went there with their families and succeeded and they still came out alive?
“We should remember that Aso Rock is the seat of power and that is where God has ordained for Nigerians that our leaders should rule from and to rule us right
“At the same time, I read in the media where they said I was in the hospital. God Almighty knows I have never been to that hospital. I don’t even know the hospital they mentioned.

“I have to explain what God has done for me. I do not have a terminal illness. I did not undergo cosmetic surgery, let alone a tummy tuck.

“My husband loves me as I am and I am pleased with how God created me, I cannot add to it.
“But at the same time, I will use this opportunity to thank my beloved husband and my children, my staff in general and all Nigerians for standing by me during my trying time.
“God has given me a second chance to come and work with women of Nigeria, children and the less privileged. I have come to serve Nigeria. I have come to work with Nigerians, I am there for them.
“Once more, I am pleased to be back. I love Nigerians; they are my family.”

You are welcome back home "OUR FIRST LADY".

TRAGEDY: MAID BOILS 3 MONTH OLD...

MAID IN ZIMBABWE BOILS EMPLOYERS 3MONTH OLD BABY

Emakhandeni residents in Bulawayo were left shocked as to where the world is headed after a maid allegedly put her employer’s three months old baby in a container and boiled it for a hour. This was in revenge to her employer’s failure to pay her salary on time. The alleged incident occurred on Wednesday last week.

It is understood that the maid, Nokuthula Nyathi, usually gets paid on the first day of every month but at the time of the alleged incident, the woman’s salary was overdue by two days. According to a source, Nyathi and her employer, Karen Dube, have a long-standing dispute.

“I do not think that money was the reason for all this. Dube did not trust her because she has caught the maid stealing her belongings on several occasions. The employer tried to fire her but the maid resisted. So I think that might be the major reason behind the cruel deed,” said the source.

It is reported that on the day in question, Nyathi asked Dube to give her her salary. The employer said she did not have the money and promised to get it by the end of the week and left for work thereafter. Nyathi, however, appeared not to have believed her employer’s promise. She is alleged to have taken the three-month old baby and put it in a container and boiled the infant on a stove for close to an hour.

The maid then took her belongings and left. On her return in the evening, Dube found her baby still in the container and purportedly shocked by what was before her, she fell unconscious. The woman was discovered by a neighbour lying on the floor.

An ambulance was called to the scene while the body of the infant was taken to a mortuary. Nyathi was nabbed a day after the incident and appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboea facing murder charges. She was remanded in custody to 23 October.
