5 SUSPECTS NABBED IN ABA OVER FAKE...

15 MILLION NAIRA FAKE DRINKS SEIZED, 5 SUSPECTS NABBED IN ABA


Nigeria’s National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized adulterated drinks worth 15 million naira during a market raid in Aba, Abia State, South -East Nigeria on Friday.

The Zonal Head of the Aba Special Zone of the agency, Mr Festus Anumba, made the disclosure in an interview with the told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba.
He said that during the raid which the agency carried out with the police at Cemetery Market, Aba, five suspects, including a lady; were apprehended and two shops sealed.

Anumba said that the agency carried out the raid, following complaints by Intercontinental Distillers Ltd. and Grand Oak Ltd., that most of their brand products had been adulterated.
He said that the two companies disclosed that the adulterated drinks were being sold to unsuspecting consumers in Aba.

The products, according to the zonal head include; Seaman’s Schnapps, Chelsea Dry Gins, Squadron Dark Rum, Bull Gin, Bull Dark, Lords Dry Gin, Calypso, Bacchus, Eagle Majesty Aromatic Schnapps and Dark Sailor.
The others are Veleta Fruit Juice and Finlays Tonic Wine.

He said that the products were also not registered with the agency, stressing that their presence in the market posed health hazards to consumers and a loss of capital to the two companies.

Anumba called for the cooperation of the traders to enable the agency recover the fake products “before more damage is done to consumers of the product.”
