NIGER TORNADOES: SHORTLISTED 6 COACHES.
NNL side, Niger Tornadoes have shortlisted six coaches for interview to fill the vacant position of technical adviser.
The Minna-based side lost their privileged position in the elite league at the end of 2011/2012 season. Tornadoes declared their head coach position vacant a week ago after the suspension of incumbent, Justin Tenger.
Media learnt that Tenger was given an opportunity to re-apply for the job but he declined. The coaches whose credentials were screened on Thursday by the Abdullahi Abdul-Paiko led board and approved for interview are Godwin Uwua, Hassan Abubakar, Ganiyu Salami, Moji Mohammed, Hamza Abdulazeez and Abimbola Samuel.
The unlucky ones include former Crown FC coach, Godfrey Esu, James Peters, Chukwuma Agbo, Domkat Effiwat, Abdulrauf Yusuf and Emmanuel Okonkwo Etteh.
An official of the side, Suleiman Isah said the shortlisted coaches will face an interview panel next week while the successful one will be known on the weekend of October 13 and 14.
"Twelve coaches applied for the technical adviser's job but we've screened the number down to six and the lucky six will face an interview panel on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
"The coaches approved for interview are Godwin Uwua, Hassan Abubakar, Ganiyu Salami, Maji Mohammed, Hamza Abdulazeez and Abimbola Samuel. "The interview panel is expected to conclude its work in two days and pass its recommendation to the board on Friday. The board is expected to sit on Saturday to ratify the panel's choice and decide on unveiling date.
"We want do conclude the issue as quickly as possible so that the chosen coach will start work in earnest and come out with clear programme on how to return the team to the Premier League," he said. Isah said virtually all the old players heeded to the September 30 resumption date as declared by the management board. "The players resumed as scheduled on Sunday, over 98% showed in camp. We're just waiting for the new coach to be named so that he'll look at the players and decide for himself what to do with them," he said.
